What is difference between Kashi and Varanasi or Banaras

The one of the top Hindu religious place Varanasi is situated in the state of Uttar Pradesh. Sometime people get confused between three names of this place the three popular names are Kashi, Varanasi and Banaras. The internet users tried to get the real and exact name for this place that’s why we put the difference between these three names and the logic behind these various names.

Varanasi: Varanasi is the one and oldest name of this place. It officially called Varanasi. This name derived from two rivers first is Varuna River and second is Asi River. Varuna+Asi jointly makes the name Varanasi.

Banaras: The people who speak Bengali pronounce it as Banaras because in the Bengali alphabets there is no “V” alphabet. They use Varanasi and Baranasi/Banaras. This name is easy to speak in several regional language of the country that’s why it became popular with each crossing day. That’s why there are two popular names of this place exist one is Varanasi and second is Banaras. Let’s know about third one that’s Kashi.

Kashi: This third name derived from the Hindu King’s name “Kashi Naresh” or Varanasi also written in Rigveda as “Kashi”. Due to Hindu Mythology this name is also very popular.

Conclusion: All three names are for the same place, Varanasi is the centre of Hindu traditions especially for North Indian. But people visit here from every corner of the country and the world.
