What is Meaning of Rudhivadi in English

We can hear this Hindi word commonly used in the newspapers and the news headlines. There are very few people know the actual meaning of it. Even Hindi speakers are unaware about the meaning of Rudhivadi. Let’s try to know the actual meaning of this word.

Rudhivadi is a word for that type of people who loves their tradition too much and never thought twice to break any rule to play their customs and traditions. These types of people follow the foot step of their elders and don’t want to go with modern society. Because they thinks that the modern culture will destroy their traditional values whatever they got as heritage from their elders. These people think that the elders were always right and they made the customs and tradition after think on it a lot and with their life experiences. Sometimes these values are true but not always. In several cases a group of people loss their independence because of these traditions. For example in some traditional areas of India ladies have to live behind veil and they haven’t permission to go outside alone. These types of customs never allow equality in the society that’s why a special group of people have to be backward and opposite group can exploit it easily and without any fear.

That’s why Rudhivadi (English Meaning: Conservative) thinking could play role as an obstacle on the way of development for a developing and non-developed country.  That’s why it’s not always good for a society but it attached with the emotions of people that’s why we can’t take direct step against it. The best way to make the people modern is only awareness. Once people started being aware about the modern culture and its benefits then surely the Rudhivadi thinking will reach to its end and we will get a modern society where equality will be the prime motive.
